The law enforcement officials shared a photo of Qi, labeling him as a person of interest just after the shooting. The suspect was a second-year doctoral student in applied physical sciences and was apparently a very nice person, as per his university students.

No Motive Found

After hours of investigation, the police have not been able to reach a conclusion about Qi’s actions. “We want to ensure that we gather every piece of evidence to determine exactly what happened,” UNC Police Chief Brian James said. The university went completely locked up when the shooting took place, with 30,000 students hiding inside the building.
