According to a recent research study, the NASA International Space Station is contaminated with harmful chemicals. The study which focused on dust collected by the air filtration system said the filters are filled with huge amounts of chemicals that are dangerous for humans.
More Chemicals Than US homes
The findings of the study led by the University of Birmingham were published in the academic journal Environmental Science and Technology Letters. The research said the dust that floats around the ISS is more than the floor dust of many homes in the US.
What Chemicals Were Found in ISS?
The study concluded that they were able to find
- Polychlorinated biphenyls (used to prevent electrical discharges)
- Perfluoroalkyl substances (mostly found in hydrocarbon fuels)
- Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (used within industries)
