FBI files have revealed a secret plot of the IRA, the Irish Republican Army, to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the United States in 1983. The 103 pages document that was posted to the FBI online records site revealed a plot of assassinating the queen in California around 40 years ago.
The Plot
According to the detailed FBI files, a police officer received a call from a man who was planning to kill the Queen. The San Francisco police officer then informed the Federal Agents about the man whom he knew at Irish bars . The man planned to drop and object from the Golden Gate Bridge on the Royal yacht Britannia when it was about to sail underneath.
Motive Behind The Assassination
The files revealed that the man who planned to assassinate the Queen, was trying to avenge her daughter’s murder, who was killed by a rubber bullet in Northern Ireland. The FBI files were made public under the Freedom of Information Act after the media requested the agency to release them after the death of the Queen.
