The health care facilities in the US are reporting skyrocketing cases of a deadly fungal infection. The fatal fungus, Candida auris, which is believed to have developed resistance against the drugs is spreading at an alarming rate, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Candida Auris
The fungus, which was first identified in 2009, has been detected in more than half of the US states since 2013. According to the CDC report, the cases of Candida Auris have nearly doubled between 2020 and 2021, with an increase of 95% from 59% in 2020. The CDC has not yet released the latest data but the health care facilities are booming with patients infected with Candida Auris.
Possible Signs
The signs of the Candida auris infection include high fever with chills that doesn’t go away with medications, the CDC report said. People who already have medical issues will have to be more careful as they are more prone to be affected by the fungus.
