Turkey Declines Elon Musk’s Starlink Offer After Earthquake

After two massive earthquakes occurring in the centre, Turkey has declined Elon Musk’s offer to activate Starlink in the country. Elon Musk offered to activate spaceX Starlink internet after the country confronted two massive and simultaneous earthquakes. The death toll has reached 5,000 from Syria and Turkey so far.

Power Outages

Elon Musk’s offer was actually a response to an individual form Turkey who mentioned that the country is facing severe power outages due to the earthquakes. Musk then offered to send Starlink in order to help regain the communication gap. Elon Musk has already activated Starlink in Ukraine when it was invaded by Russia last year.

Turkey Said Thank You

In response to Elon Musk’s offer, Turkey declined by saying “thank you”. An anonymous senior Turkish official said that Turkey had enough satellite capacity and everything will be fine. Meetings are frequently conducted “to see how communication outages could be avoided,” Ömer Fatih Sayan, Turkey’s minister of transport and infrastructure tweeted.
