French Actor Gaspard Ulliel Hospitalized After Ski Accident

According to the regional prosecutor’s office, French actor Gaspard Ulliel has been hospitalized following a ski accident in the Alps. He was featured in Chanel perfume commercials as well as film and TV roles.

Ulliel portrayed the young Hannibal Lecter in 2007’s “Hannibal Rising,” as well as fashion mogul Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic “Saint Laurent.” He is also the face of Chanel’s men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel and in the upcoming Marvel series “Moon Knight.”

According to the Savoie prosecutor’s office, an investigation is underway into the accident on Tuesday at Rosiere ski area in the Savoie region.

France Bleu reports Ulliel is in serious condition with a skull fracture. He remained hospitalized on Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office said.

Attempts to reach Ulliel’s agents for comments were not immediately successful.

A police official and the prosecutor declined to reveal details of Ulliel’s accident. France Bleu reported that another skier apparently collided with Ulliel at a crossing point on the slopes, but the other skier was not hospitalized.

Since the snow has hardened, the mountain police service serving the area where the accident occurred announced it has been organizing five or six rescues per day in the last few days.

A skier crashed into a 5-year-old girl and she was killed in the neighboring Haute-Savoie region on Saturday. An investigation by the Haute-Savoie prosecutor has identified excessive speed as the probable cause of the accident, which led to the man being handed preliminary manslaughter charges.
