EU Says Won't Include Role Of European Court In Discussions With UK

European Union leaders are not prepared to include the role of their highest court in post-Brexit negotiations with Britain, according to European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic.

During talks with Britain’s Brexit minister David Frost, Sefcovic said the EU’s single market must be protected by having the European Court of Justice deal with issues related to trading with Northern Ireland.

He said at a news conference that it was part of Ireland’s protocol with Northern Ireland.

Therefore, it forms part of our overall agreement with the UK. Until the summer of this year, it was not contested at all. And therefore, it is the subject that we have not been ready to discuss thus far.”
