Ukraine has launched what Moscow officials describe as the largest drone attack yet on the Russian capital region.
Hundreds of drones were reportedly intercepted, with explosions reported across the area.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around 450 drones were shot down, calling it the city’s “most massive” attack.
But what was the target? Ukrainian officials said drones and missiles struck a major oil refinery and a logistics facility.
They argued the attacks could hit supplies supporting Russia’s war effort.
The strikes also caused civilian casualties. Regional officials said at least two people were killed and 20 injured, including after a drone hit a residential building.
The refinery is particularly significant. Ukrainian officials say it supplies more than a third of the Moscow region’s fuel and provides some fuel to Russia’s military.
Rising Civilian Toll
Meanwhile, Russian attacks killed at least nine people in Ukraine’s Kyiv and Sumy regions, including three children, according to Ukrainian officials.
Airports around Moscow also imposed temporary restrictions, disrupting flights.
Both sides have increasingly targeted energy and transport infrastructure.
Despite claims of an agreement to avoid such strikes, the attacks continue.
With drones now reaching deep into each other’s territory, the battlefield is becoming harder to contain.
It is increasingly difficult for civilians to escape.
