Norway is preparing to put another 85 billion Norwegian crowns ($9.2 billion) behind Ukraine in 2027. Why keep such a huge commitment going?
Oslo says the answer is simple: Ukraine’s security is tied to Europe’s own.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced the planned funding as he and other Nordic and Baltic leaders travelled to Kyiv on Sunday.
This signalled continued regional support for Ukraine as its war with Russia approaches its fourth-and-a-half year.
The money will cover both military and humanitarian needs, with Stoere describing the support as more than traditional aid.
“Supporting and rebuilding Ukraine is not assistance alone. It is an investment in Europe’s own security.”
The announcement comes as Russia and Ukraine intensify long-range drone attacks against each other’s economic infrastructure.
This is taking the conflict far beyond the immediate front lines.

Europe Stands By Kyiv
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Ukraine’s strikes on Russian economic targets have opened a “Pandora’s box”.
Promising retaliation against what he called Ukraine’s “most sensitive economic sectors.”
With battlefield fighting continuing and attacks increasingly aimed at weakening each side’s economy.
Norway’s latest pledge shows that European backing for Kyiv is not fading.
The bigger question now is how long this financial and military commitment can continue and what price Europe is willing to pay for Ukraine’s security.
