What should have been a weekend of music, food, and community celebration suddenly turned into a scene of panic and chaos in Ohio.
At least 12 people were shot near the Old West End Festival in Toledo on Saturday, sending festival-goers scrambling for safety as gunfire erupted.
The victims, ranging in age from 16 to 61, were rushed to hospital. Police say 10 are in stable condition, while two remain critically injured. So what happened?
Investigators believe two individuals may have been exchanging gunfire.
“They were probably shooting at each other,” Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan told reporters.
Suggesting the violence may have stemmed from a targeted dispute rather than a random attack.
Investigation Underway
Witnesses described a frightening scene. One attendee said he was ordering food when he noticed a group of young people arguing.
Moments later, gunshots rang out and crowds began running in every direction.
For local residents, the incident struck a painful nerve. The Old West End Festival has long been a cherished community tradition.
“It’s just horrible,” Heffernan said, lamenting how a handful of people disrupted an event enjoyed by families for years.
Police are now reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses as they search for suspects.
A summer festival is supposed to create memories. This time, unfortunately, it created headlines no one wanted to see.
