Police Officer Warns Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Unexpected Door Knocks

A TikTok cop has challenged what many think is the safest move when someone knocks at the door: ignoring it.

Officer Arsenault’s video, captioned with a serious “WARNING! Extremely important message #onthisday” is going viral on Tiktok and is breaking myths.

Ignoring Door Knock Could Worsen Things

But here’s the catch: Officer Arsenault says ignoring the knock could worsen things.

In his video, he warns, “If you don’t answer, two minutes later, they’re kicking your door in for a daytime break-and-enter.”

That’s a nightmare scenario straight out of Home Alone (minus the clever traps).

Officer Arsenault said strangers could break in if they sense that there is no one home.

What Should Be Done?

If the idea of facing a stranger at your door sends your anxiety into overdrive, Arsenault has advice: you don’t have to open the door.

Just make some noise—shout through it, wave them off, or pretend you’re on the phone.

The goal? Let them know someone’s home, so they don’t try to break in.
