Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz was charged for illegally carrying a firearm at Dulles International Airport.
The Indiana Republican was charged under Virginia law that prohibits carrying any sort of firearm or explosive device into any airport terminal, media reports confirmed.
The Republican congresswoman was later allowed to travel to an international meeting in Romania but was summoned to appear in a Virginia court.
The Gun Was Empty
A spokesman for Victoria Spartz later told media that the GOP leader didn’t know she had a firearm in her suitcase while going through the security at Dulles airport.
Transportation Security Administration confirmed that the officers found an unloaded .380-caliber handgun and the Mrs. Spartz was unaware how it got there.
The GOP leader failed to share more information about the incident and the charges by citing departmental policy.
Neither Spartz’s office nor the media mentioned if the GOP congresswoman was given the firearm back upon confiscation.
